When we started Sweet & Sour Saturdays, most of our early orders were the fun kind.
Birthday shirts,
Funny mugs,
Personalized Easter baskets,
Inside jokes that made people laugh.
We loved it! Making things that brought smiles (and sometimes loud laughter) was exactly what we hoped to do.
Then one message came in that was different.
It wasn’t about a party or a holiday.
A customer reached out and said she wanted us to create something for her friend… whose mom had recently passed away.
She didn’t want anything flashy.
She didn’t want anything trendy.
She just wanted something her friend could look at every day — something that would remind her she was still close.
We’ll be honest.
We took a deep breath before responding.
Because this wasn’t just a custom order anymore.
This was someone’s memory.
Someone’s grief.
Someone’s heart.
We worked carefully with her ideas and wording, double-checking every detail (and triple-checking, because this was not the time for typos).
When the pieces were finished, we packaged them with extra care and sent them on their way.
A few days later, we received a message.
She told us her friend cried when she opened the gifts.
Not because she was sad…
But because, for the first time since her mom had passed, she felt comfort when she looked at the memorial piece and wore the matching pendant around her neck, close to her heart.
That was the moment we realized we weren’t just making gifts.
We were helping people:
Remember loved ones
Celebrate lives
Hold onto moments
Keep memories close
Since then, we’ve created memorial tiles, photo keepsakes, necklaces, magnets, ornaments, and more — each one made with the same care and compassion.
Some orders still make us laugh — HARD.
Some make us smile.
Some make us shake our heads and say, “Well… that’s definitely going to be memorable.”
And some… remind us why this work matters so much.
But just when we thought we had seen every kind of emotional request…
Another order came in.
This one didn’t ask for a memory.
It asked us to create a gift that would deliver a surprise the receiver would never ever forget.
And this time?
We definitely didn’t see it coming!
